UNION — Mrs. Betty Lee Mahaffey, 86, widow of Henry Bennett Mahaffey, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 22, at Wallace Thomson Hospital. She was a resident of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Mahaffey was born in Union on Sept. 11, 1926, a daughter of the late Erastus Jeter Wilburn and Minne Lee Howe Wilburn. She was the last survivor of nine children. Mrs. Mahaffey attended Cross Anchor schools and was a homemaker. She was a member of Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Hope Mahaffey Turner and husband Roger of Buffalo; a son, Henry Bennett Mahaffey, Jr. and wife Jo of Greenville; three grandchildren, Jennifer Wilkins Rogers and husband Brandon of Union, Beverly Wilkins Kurtz and husband Stephen of Buffalo, and Savannah Mahaffey of Greenville; five great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Rachel and Isabella Rogers of Union, Daniel and Nathan Kurtz of Buffalo; two step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a great-grandson, Jack Wilkins Rogers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Carrol Caldwell and Rev. Johnny Burgess. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Brandon Rogers, Stephen Kurtz, Jackie Burnett, Jimmy Rice, Maxie Sanders and Randall Murphy.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. at the church prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church, 172 Fincher Rd., Union, SC 29379 or to New Hope Baptist Church, P.O. Box 728, Buffalo, SC 29321.

The family will be at home of daughter: Hope and Roger Turner, 240 Mud Bridge Rd., Buffalo.
