UNION — The City of Union Planning Department issued building permits for nearly $1.8 million in commercial and residential repairs and new construction during the months of September October.

In its report to Union City Council for the month of October, the planning department reported issuing 75 permits and collecting $6,485.76 in fees on projects with a combined value of $1,266,639. In September, the department issued 91 permits and collected $2,758.50 on projects with a combined value of $505,341.

For September and October, the department issued:

n Two permits for $4,052.26 on $893,500 in new commercial construction.

n Fifteen permits for $1,060 on $206,087 in commercial repairs.

n Two permits for $150 on $58,760 in demolitions.

n Eighty-eight permits for $2,635 on $467,085 in residential repairs.

n Two permits for $30 on $150 worth of signage.

n Three electrical permits for $70.50 on new commercial projects worth $2,925.

n Three electrical permits for $90 on $3,500 worth of commercial repairs.

n Thirteen electrical permits for $269 on $6,175 worth of residential repairs.

n Four heating/air conditioning permits for $240 on $39,300 in new commercial projects.

n Ten heating/air conditioning permits for $430 on $64,415 in new residential projects.

n Twelve commercial occupancy permits.

n One plumbing permit for $18.50 on a commercial repair project worth $1,800.

n One plumbing permit for $64 on a new residential project worth $2,800.

n Nine permits for $135 on $25,483 in residential repairs.

Business Licenses

The department also issued a total of 130 business license fees in September and October, collecting a total of $29,410.30 in fees.

Other Projects

In September, the demolition of the old Piggly Wiggly building at 400 E. Main St. by the owner was in progress. This continued into October which saw the completion of the demolition of a house at 118 Bowling Avenue by the owner.

Letters

The department issued a total of 18 nuisance and code violation letters for overgrown grass, abandoned vehicles, signs, and condemned structures.

Inspections

A total of 40 inspections were conducted including building (20), electrical (13), plumbing (3), and heating/air conditioning (4).

There were also four on-site meetings with contractors in follow ups on complaints.
