Have you noticed how the stores make the transition from Halloween straight to Christmas? They go from displaying all the ghost and goblins to putting out reindeer and Santa Claus.

Where is Thanksgiving in the stores? I realize that it is not a big commercial time for sales, but I still feel that it is important.

Also, why do we limit being thankful to just one time a year? I, like everyone else, have problems and my share of things to worry about, but I have come to learn that in every problem God is still in full control. For that I am truly thankful.

A heart of thanks is more than just an attitude; it is also an action. I don’t thank God because I have to. I thank Him because I want to.

2 Corinthians 9:15 says, “ Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift.” There are times when I can’t even begin to thank Him for all the blessings of life. There are just too many. But then there are times when my heart is flooded with gratitude for all the speakable gifts of God. I’m thankful for my salvation.

1 Corinthians 15:57 says, “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” I am thankful for my wife, two children, my parents and grandparents. I’m grateful for my sister, niece and nephew, aunts and uncles, my friends, brothers and sisters in Christ, my church, God’s Holy Word, the call of God on my life, and the talents He has blessed me with.

I am blessed with good health, strength, common sense, and some intelligence. I’m thankful for a roof over my head, a warm place on a cold night. Food is always on my table. I have a job that provides above and beyond my family’s needs and mine. I live in a country where I still enjoy my freedom because there are men and women who are willing to defend our nation. I have a right to pray to my risen Savior.

I am eternally grateful for the sweet, Holy Spirit, for peace in my soul, and joy unspeakable and full of glory, for the wisdom God gives, and a true heart of love for the way that I was raised. I thank God for the old preacher that preached truth, the saints of God that taught me the old-time way. I am thankful that I don’t fear what tomorrow holds, because I know who is holding all my tomorrows.

There is a song that I sometimes sing that truly reflects the thanksgiving in my heart. “I’ve got so much to thank Him for; so much to praise Him for. You see He’s been so good to me. And when I think of all He’s done and where He’s brought me from, I’ve got so much to thank Him for.”

We truly have so much to thank Him for. I hope that you will take time over the busyness of the Thanksgiving weekend to reflect on how good God has been to you and to offer your thanks and praise to Him.

Tune in to WBCU 103.5 FM Sundays at noon for the Shining Light Broadcast. I preach a 15-minute message that I pray will be a blessing to those who listen.
