CARLISLE — Even though she wasn’t on the ballot, a member of the Carlisle Town Council won another term in office.

The office of mayor and two seats on the town council were on the ballot in Carlisle in the general election earlier this month.

Mayor Mary Ferguson-Glenn was unopposed for a second term and received 165 votes of the 201 cast with the remaining 36 votes divided among 36 write-ins.

Councilman Ronnie “Motorcar” Lyles was unopposed for a fourth term on council and received 206 of the 236 votes cast with the remaining 30 divided between write-ins.

The other council seat on the ballot is currently held by council member Maxine Spencer who declined to run for re-election. Despite this, Spencer will continue serving on council after receiving the largest number of write-in votes.

Municipal Clerk Shannon McBride said Thursday that Spencer received nine of the 30 write-in votes cast and won a third term on council even though she wasn’t running for re-election. She said Spencer has agreed to continue serving on council and will be sworn-in along with Lyles and Ferguson-Glenn in January when the new terms begin.
