UNION — The marchers in Monday’s Veterans Day Parade included 20 young artists who carried their work honoring veterans.

The young artists were students from Buffalo, Foster Park, Jonesville, Lockhart and Monarch elementary Schools and the elementary grades of Union Christian Day School. Each student carried the poster he or she had drawn as part of a contest sponsored through their schools by the Union County Veterans Day Parade Committee. The posters featured patriotic themes and celebrated and thanked veterans for their service to America.

Cindy Fore, committee member and director of the Union County Veterans Affairs office, said the committee sponsors the contest and a similar essay contest to get the students more involved and educate them about veterans and their service to the nation and the community.

The authors of the winning essays also marched in the parade alongside the winners of the poster contest.
