Seventy percent of registered voters cast ballots Tuesday

UNION — Seven out of every 10 registered voters in Union County cast their ballots in Tuesday’s general election compared to the slightly more eight of 10 who did so in 2008.

In 2008, there were 16,724 registered voters in Union County. Of those, 13,709 or 81.9 percent voted.

Four years later, there were 17,281 registered voters in Union County according to the SCVotes.org website. Results posted on the website show that 12,601 or 72.92 percent of those voters cast ballots in Tuesday’s general election.

Statewide, there were 2,875,121 registered voters, and unofficial results show that 1,892,587 or 65.83 percent voted Tuesday.

Counties adjacent to Union County reported turnouts of 70.91 percent (Chester), 75.75 percent (Fairfield) and 73.12 percent (Newberry)

Precincts

Turnout in all of the county’s precincts exceeded 50 percent with many exceeding 60 percent. The highest turnout was in West Springs with nearly 75 percent followed by Santuc with nearly 71 percent.

The precincts, the number of registered voters and turnout include:

• Adamsburg had 698 registered voters of which 423 or 60.60 percent voted.

• Black Rock had 388 registered voters of which 263 or 67.78 percent voted.

• Bonham had 929 registered voters of which 601 or 64.69 percent voted.

• Buffalo Box 1 had 908 registered voters of which 526 or 56.93 percent voted.

• Carlisle had 569 registered voters of which 366 or 64.32 percent voted.

• Cross Keys had 818 registered voters of which 532 or 65.04 percent voted.

• East Buffalo had 404 registered voters of which 216 or 53.44 percent voted

• Excelsior had 1,401 registered voters of which 779 or 55.60 percent voted.

• Jonesville Box 1 had 969 registered voters of which 621 64.09 percent voted.

• Jonesville Box 2 had 1,159 registered voters of which 743 or 64.11 percent voted.

• Kelton had 900 registered voters of which 585 or 65 percent voted.

•Lockhart had 688 registered voters of which 413 or 60.03 percent voted.

• Monarch Box 1 had 1,153 registered voters of which 623 or 54.03 percent voted.

• Monarch Box 2 had 428 registered voters of which 250 or 58.41 percent voted.

• Putman had 645 registered voters of which 422 or 65.43 percent voted.

• Santuc had 741 registered voters of which 525 or 70.85 percent voted.

• Union Ward 1 Box 1 had 705 registered voters of which 424 or 60.14 percent voted.

• Union Ward 1 Box 2 had 1,090 registered voters of which 637 or 58.44 percent voted.

• Union Ward 2 had 1,088 registered voters of which 577 or 53.03 percent voted.

• Union Ward 3 had 725 registered voters of which 391 or 52.97 percent voted.

• Union Ward 4 Box 1 had 867 registered voters of which 477 or 55.02 percent voted.

• Union Ward 4 Box 2 had 427 registered voters of which 202 or 47.31 percent voted.

• West Springs had 322 registered voters of which 244 or 75.78 percent voted.

Certification

The results of Tuesday’s election are unofficial until they are certified by the Union County Election Commission.

Keith Vanderford, election commission chairman, said the commission will meet at 10 a.m. Friday at the Union County Voter Registrar’s Office to certify the results.
