UNION — Union County wide receiver Chris Booker has been selected to compete in the 64th South Carolina Automobile Dealers Association North-South All-Star Football Game.

Booker has been a key offensive variable throughout the season and also contributed largely to the defense when Union County Coach Steve Taneyhill decided to utilize his talents at safety. In four games Booker racked up 19 tackles and an interception. Meanwhile, upon entering post season he had 41 catches for 509 yards, 104 yards rushing and six touchdowns.

“It’s a great honor for Chris and I’m happy for him,” said Taneyhill. “He’s had a really good season and he’s helped us in a lot of areas.”

In addition to seeing action on both sides of the ball, Booker receives kickoffs and punts for Union County’s special teams.

“Chris is listed as a wide receiver but he can do so much,” said Taneyhill. “He has really helped us on defense in the last four or five games and he can play running back if we need him to. He’s so versatile and I really think that’s probably why he got picked. He can play a variety of positions and those All Star games are limited to how many guys you can have so it helps to have a kid who can play four or five positions like Chris can.”

Competing in the North-South game will give Booker the opportunity to play on a larger stage in front of some Division I recruiters. So far, the senior utility player has received an offer from Gardener Webb.

Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 8 at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach. The North won 42-3 last year and leads the all-time series 37-25-2.
