BUFFALO — Three arrests have been made and more are expected in connection with the daytime burglary of a house in the Buffalo Community.
Shawn Allen MacPhail Jr., 19, Kissy Creek Circle, Union; Dillon Traylor DeHart, 19, 165 Morningside Drive, Pauline; and Jeremy Andrew Walters, 22, 1517 Peach Orchard, Union, are each charged by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with one count of second-degree burglary and one count of grand larceny.
The incident report stated that a deputy was dispatched just before noon Wednesday to a residence at 154 Whispering Pines Drive in reference to a burglary in process.
The victim said he’d come home from college and saw two individuals dressed in dark clothing, black jackets, hats, and gloves near a camper in the wood line behind his home. He said he yelled at them and they took off running toward a nearby house.
The report stated the burglars entered the victim’s residence by removing the air conditioning unit from his bedroom window.
The responding deputy requested more deputies along with K-9 units and investigators be dispatched to the scene to establish a perimeter and search for the suspects. The K-9 units began tracking the suspects, eventually locating McPhail and DeHart on Mt. Lebanon Road.
McPhail and DeHart were then placed under arrest and transported to jail.
Walters was arrested Thursday afternoon, according to a statement released Friday by the sheriff’s office.
Investigators determined that the burglars entered the victim’s residence by removing the air conditioning unit from his bedroom window.
In the course of the investigation, it was determined that items with a combined value of $2,600 had been stolen from the residence including:
• An XBox gaming system
• A metal jewelry case containing an 18k gold rope chain with a heart-shaped diamond pendant
• An 18K gold chain ring
• A pair of on carat diamond stud earrings
• Various other costume jewelry
• A brown wooden box containing a Crown Royal bag with approximately 25 old silver dollar and 50-cent pieces
• A GPS used for fishing
In a statement released Thursday announcing the arrest of McPhail and DeHart, Sheriff David Taylor said the investigation was continuing and that more arrests were expected.
“Investigators and I are continuing to investigate this burglary today,” Taylor said. “We do expect more arrests as the investigation continues. Union County Sheriff’s Office deputies, K-9 units, investigators and I worked on this case for many hours yesterday. I am proud of the continued success of our K-9 units and commend our investigators for safely recovering all of the items missing for the victims. It is truly a team approach here at the sheriff’s office and it is proved on cases like this one.”
