CHESNEE — The Sims Middle School eighth-grade team defeated the Rainbow Lake Gators of Chesnee 28-18 on the road Thursday. The Tiger offense scored on four of its six possessions, with Shi Smith tossing three touchdowns and running for one.

Smith first connected with Daren Osborne on a 45-yard touchdown pass, then threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Tramayne Jeter, giving the Tigers a 14-0 lead over the Gators.

The Gators came clawing back, scoring on their next two drives and cutting the lead to 14-12. The second half started out as a defensive struggle until Smith ran for a 50-yard touchdown and a two-point conversion.

With two minutes to go, the Tigers were only up by 2 when Smith connected with Osborne again for a 30-yard touchdown pass and Ty Washington scored the two-point conversion.

The Tiger defense was led by Dabreon Scott with an interception, Debo Woods with two sacks and several key tackles, and AJ Hunter with two sacks. The Tigers improve to 5-1 and host their last home game as Tiger football players next Thursday versus Woodruff.
