As you read your Bible you will find all kinds of interesting stories in the Old Testament.

It begins with a unique garden and leads to a huge boat called an ark. We see towers, tabernacles, and temples. There are promised lands and polluted lands. We hear about family betrayals and family reunions. There are kings and beggars.

We even study the life of the strongest judge named Samson, and the story of the little lame boy named Mephibosheth.

As you read your Bible, look for glimpses and foreshadows of Jesus. The whole Bible points to his birth, his betrayal, his passion, his ascension, his salvation, and his soon return. In the Old Testament, you can find wonderful types of Jesus Christ and I would like to share one with you today.

In Genesis 6, 7, and 8 we read the incredible story of a sin-cursed world and about one honest, God-fearing man named Noah.

As God looked on the generation of Noah’s day, He saw the wickedness and evil hearts of man. Let me just remind you that God sees everything. His vision is as good today as it was then and He sees much of the same sin in 2012 as in the day of Noah. As God looked on the Bible says, “It repented the Lord that He had made man on the earth, and it grieved His heart”(Genesis 6:6). So God sent judgment to the world.

Now before you say, “We are in a different time period. It’s not the same,” let me remind you that God never changes. He still hates sin and He still punishes sin.

We go on to read, “Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” This means God’s punishment as withheld from Noah and he and his family would be saved. What exactly would he be saved from? He would be saved from God’s judgment that would be poured out on the world in the form of a worldwide flood.

Noah received divine instructions and built an ark. This ark was God’s way of salvation for Noah and his family. It hadn’t rained so it was a step of faith in God to save them as they built and entered the ark.

Jesus is God’s way of salvation from the fiery judgment of Hell. You have to put your faith in Christ as your way of salvation. Also there was only one ark just as there is only one Savior. No other boats were mentioned. No other boats would have withstood the floods that poured down on the earth.

I’m sure that once the rains came some tried to climb to salvation on higher ground. Some may have tried to bribe Noah to be let on board but God had shut the door. Some may have tried to hold on the ark or even ride the rains out on a board they found. But there was only one way to escape God’s wrath and that was to be inside the ark.

Peter wrote, “Neither is there salvation in any other. For there is no other name given under Heaven among men, where by ye must be saved. The name Jesus Christ.” He is the one and only way to eternal life in Heaven. No good works, no memberships, no family ties, and no amount of money will save you. Jesus Christ is the only salvation just as the ark was the only salvation for Noah and his family.

There are many other examples I could give but time will not allow in this article. This is why I encourage you to open God’s word for yourself and allow God to speak to you out of His precious word. Make your way to church this Sunday to learn more about the Savior. Most importantly, if you have never been born-again and know not of God’s salvation, it is not too late to call on the Lord and enter Jesus, the ark of salvation for your soul, before the judgment comes.
