Los Angeles, perhaps? Crips and Bloods? Drive-by shootings?
How about Union, S.C.?
Recent events indicate gang activity may have reached our little corner of the world.
Over the weekend, Union Public Safety Officers discovered several instances of vandalism caused by someone spray-painting gang graffiti on buildings, signs and other fixtures on the city’s south side.
The side of Dr. Richard Poole’s office at 201 West South St. and his business sign were spray-painted with the symbols “BGD,” a six-pointed star and “b74.” Authorities say this could be the work of “taggers” — gang members who spray paint as a way to mark their territory.
Other gang graffiti was discovered at various locations around town.
Public safety chief Sam White said parents should be more vigilant about knowing where their children are, who they are with and what they are doing.
“If parents see gang symbols on their children’s clothes, on their books or in their rooms that should throw up a red flag,” he said. “Their child might be involved in something they can’t get out of once they are in it.”
He’s right. No community is safe from gang activity, not even one as closely knit as ours. We should all be alert and report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement officials. Our children’s safety depends on it.

I FEEL IT IS UP TO THE PARENTS TO KEEP THE YOUTH OFF THE STREETS AT NIGHT. MAYBE GIVE THEM A GOAL TO WORK TOWARDS.
GET THEM INTO CHURCH.
