UNION — This year’s Union County Agricultural Fair will offer five days of food, fun and entertainment for Union County and surrounding areas.

The headline attraction for this year’s fair is “Elephant Encounter,” which is billed as an educational and entertaining experience for the entire family.

“I look forward to another great fair season,” said Paul Winters, Union County Fair Association executive director. “I’m excited about our marquee attraction — Elephant Encounter. This attraction stays with our commitment to bring attractions and entertainment that most of the community never gets to experience.”

Husband and wife Bill and Cindy Morris will guide the audience through an up close and personal encounter with the world’s largest animals. The stars of the Elephant Encounter are named Cora and Shannon.

Cora is a 50-year-old Asian elephant, which weighs in at 9,000 pounds. Shannon — a 25-year-old African elephant — weighs in at 4,500 pounds. The Morrises promise that audience members will be inspired as they experience the full force of each elephant’s unique, individual personality. Bill and Cindy also stress that their elephants are neither circus elephants, nor zoo elephants. They are family elephants and have been owned and cared for by the Morris family for virtually their entire lives.

Other attractions will include a return of the popular Eudora Farms Petting Zoo — an educational interactive animal adventure. The petting zoo will feature 20-25 rare exotic animals as well as camel and pony rides.

Another nightly attraction will be Nick’s Kids Show. Led by Nick Dattilo, the show — complete with its own stage and sound — is driven by audience participation from children in attendance. Children are selected from the audience to come on stage and be part of Nick’s band. Dattilo will give children props and costume pieces, and contests will be held such as hula hoop contests and YMCA dance contests.

Rolling cash drawings will also return for this year’s fair. One ticket will be drawn nightly. If no winner is present, the jackpot will “roll over” to the next night. On Saturday, tickets will be drawn until there is a jackpot winner.

A professional wrestling event — by Trans-South Wrestling — will be featured on Saturday night. Fans will see the winner of the Uniquely Union Battle Royale — Danny Dollar — get a title shot at TSW heavyweight champion Deon Johnson. The card will also feature national television star Cedric Alexander from Ring of Honor, which airs on WLOS 13 and WMYA 40 on Saturday nights. Also on the card are “Real Deal” Jay Steel, Dirty, Peter Kaasanova, Michael Frehley, Christi Whiplash, Chase Brown, Ace Cauldron and many more TSW wrestlers.

Regular admission for this year’s fair is $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 12 and under. Children age 2 and under will be admitted free. A pay-one-price (POP) ride promotion will be available each day, with prices varying depending on the day. POP tickets are also available at participating outlets.

Sponsors of this year’s fair are McDonalds of Union, WBCU, Sanders Motorsports, B.F. Kennedy, Frank Hart, Lockhart Power, Town of Jonesville, Dollar General and Republic Services.
