UNION — Several goals were met during Saturday’s “Just Glazed” 5K team run/walk for Autism Speaks.

The run was held by a local group of runners — known as The Brat Pack — as a fundraiser for Autism Speaks.

David and Barbara Kirkland — along with their son, Sebastian, who was diagnosed with autism at age 5 — have worked to raise money for Autism Speaks each October. Last summer, the family took up running as a new hobby by joining “The Brat Pack,” and decided to host the 5K this year as a way to not only raise more money, but also raise awareness.

“We felt like the 5K would get more community involvement and raise more awareness in Union,” Barbara said.

Barbara set a goal of having 100 registrants for the event, and the goal was met with a final count of 102 registrants with 96 of those actually participating.

“It was an all-around great event,” Barbara said. “We had a great turnout, and we had lots of fun. We had multiple families who live with autism participating in the event.”

Although donations are still coming in, as of Saturday there was $2,431.63 raised which will be donated to Autism Speaks.

Brat Pack member Stephanie Kitchens said the group is thankful for everyone who sponsored, volunteered and participated, and the group looks forward to seeing everyone again next October.

Participants walked an ran in male, female and coed teams, and others participated as individuals. The results of the event were:
