UNION — A shoe store will be one of two new businesses going in a building that will be built along the Duncan Bypass next to the Wal-Mart Super Center.

Personnel and equipment with Sailors Asphalt Paving Co. began clearing the site, which is located next to the Wal-Mart parking lot down the bypass from McDonald’s and across the highway from Kentucky Fried Chicken/Taco Bell, on Wednesday.

A Sailors official said Friday that the company will clear, grade, grass and perform erosion control on the site; install storm drainage, sewage and water lines; build the base and pave the site; do the striping and install signs. The official said the company was hired to handle this phase of the project by Southeast General Contractors.

When completed, the facility will have space for two businesses, one of which will be a shoe store.

Barbara McCall-Crayne, business license coordinator for the City of Union Planning Department, said Friday that she’d been informed by Brian Blackwell that a “two suite” building will be built on the site. McCall-Crayne said Blackwell told her a Shoe Show store would occupy one of the suites. She said the department had no information on what would be going in the other suite.

McCall-Crayne said the address of the new building will be 515 N. Duncan Bypass, Suite A and Suite B. She said she’d received information that the Shoe Show store will be in Suite B.
