OCTOBER 6

The UNION COUNTY S.R.T. (SPECIAL RESPONSE TEAM) will have a free Hot Dog Luncheon at Wal-Mart on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public is invited to come out and meet the SRT members. Bring the kids — we will have equipment on display for them to see and the SRT vehicle set-up for them to tour. Raffle tickets for several drawings will be held and donations are accepted.

OCTOBER 7

THE SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST RELAY FOR LIFE TEAM will hold a yard sale from 1 p.m.-until. The sale, which is to benefit Relay For Life, will be held in the church yard at 1437 Jonesville Highway. For more information contact Donna Smith at 427-0595.

THE AMERICAN LEGION POST 87 will meet at 7 p.m. in the Flats in Buffalo.

UNION COUNTY COUNCIL will hold a public hearing at 5:15 p.m. in the Grand Jury Room of the Union County Courthouse. The purpose of the public hearing is to receive comments from the public on the proposed ordinance authorizing fee-in-lieu of taxes and special source revenue credit arrangements between the County, Belk, Inc. and 3805 Jonesville, LLC. The public is invited to attend and participate.

UNION COUNTY COUNCIL will hold their regular monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the Grand Jury Room of the Union County Courthouse. The public is invited and any persons requiring special assistance to attend should contact the supervisor’s office 48 hours prior to the meeting.

THE SALVATION ARMY OF UNION, S.C. will hold registration for Christmas assistance from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Carlisle Town Hall. The requirements for eligibility are:

• Verification of household members (food stamp print out).

• Verification of residency (Union ID card, updated mail, or current utility bill).

• Verification of need (food stamp print out, Medicaid card, or proof of income from last 30 days).

• Verification of child’s date of birth (Medicaid card, birth certificate, or school ID). Children receiving Angel Tree assistance must have been born on or after Nov. 1, 2000.

THE TORRINGTON/TIMKEN RETIREES will meet at 6 p.m. at Blue Ocean in Clinton.

SIMS MIDDLE SCHOOL will hold a Technology Night for Parents at 6 p.m. in the library. The focus of the program will be Ipads and their educational uses. The first 30 participants will be able to use school Ipads during the session. Parents attending this session may also bring their own Ipads. DESCENDANTS OF GEORGE THOMAS HYATT, AMANDA MAYES, AND JANIE SCOTT HYATT will hold their annual family reunion at 12:30 p.m. at Bogansville United Methodist Church. Please bring a covered dish lunch and drinks. Bogansville worship service begins at 11 a.m. You are invited to attend.

THE DESCENDANTS OF JAMES MONROE LAWSON AND MYRA ELLEN SMITH LAWSON will have their annual Reunion at Foster’s Chapel UM Church. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Plates, cups, napkins and ice will be furnished. Bring a well filled picnic basket.

THE UNION COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1977 will hold its 15-year high school reunion Oct. 19 and 20. Classmates will meet at the football game on Oct. 19 and at 11 a.m. on Oct. 20 at the complex for a softball game and then hold the reunion from 6 p.m.-until at the Shriners Building on S.C. 49. THE BPO DOES UNION DROVE #148 will have their annual Chinese Auction at Union Elks Lodge. Doors open at 6 p.m. and drawing for prizes will begin promptly at 7 p.m. All proceeds goes to DOES projects.

THE NEW EMANUEL BAPTIST CHURCH has opened a free clothes closet in the back of the Municipal Building in Jonesville. Hours of operation will be Tuesday and Friday 9:30 a.m.-noon.
