UNION — Despite a mild but unrelenting rain shower on Saturday, Union County held its 16th annual NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition at the Union County Stadium.

“This is the local portion of the competition for boys and girls six to 15 years old,” explained Recreation Department Athletic Director Sam Phipps. “They punt, pass and kick for distance and then we measure from the spot of the ball.”

First place finishers in each age group were awarded a spot in the regional contest, held this year in Pickens, S.C. After the scores are calculated, winners in that portion of the event advance to a team that competes during a Carolina Panthers game. The winners of each age group there go on to a championship round and highest scorers of the championship are then recognized at halftime of an NFL playoff game.

Winners

8-9 Girls — April Benvenuti — Total Points: 71 feet, 6 inches.

6-7 Boys — Dalton Smith — Total Points: 87 feet, 1 inches.

8-9 Boys — Preston Bobbitt — Total Points: 135 feet, 7 inches.

10-11 Boys —Weston Foster — 205 feet, 3 inches.

12-13 Boys — Calen Benvenuti — 320 feet, 2 inches.
