Hello everyone, local news on the way, but first we do our birthdays wishes sent in from Gottrocks The Birthday Fairy.

Happy Birthday to Carolyn McMurray, Idella Hare, Gail J. Bowie, Travis Riser, Raymond Thrift, Samantha Hood, Shirley Hunnicutt and her sister, Paula Lindler Turner, Laura Holmberg, Kathy G. Lewis, Karen P. McMorris. Special 94th birthday wishes to Mr. Buddy Andrews. Mr. Andrews has been a longtime volunteer with The Boy Scouts Troop #200 and the Baker Senior Center.

Anniversary

We send our Happy Anniversary Wishes to Betty and William Worthy. The couple recently celebrated the 62nd anniversary with family members.

Community And Church Events

The Whitmire Memorial Library is hosting a fall reading story time program for children. Contact the staff at 803-694-3961 or stop by the library on Church Street for more information.

The Whitmire Jaycees will host the Annual Main Street Yard Sale, Saturday, Oct. 6 at 7 a.m. Vendor spots/space are $10 for civic and church groups and individuals and $20 for professional craft /goods vendors.

Contact Sue Hollingsworth or Amy Silvers. Cash accepted the day of the event and checks accepted and can be mailed to the Jaycees post office box at P.O Box 173, Whitmire, SC 29178. Contact the Jaycees via their Facebook page.

The Jaycees are planning a “ good old fashioned “ stump meeting at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at The Community Center. The public is encouraged to come out, attend the event, meet the candidates and ask questions of the candidates who are running for town, country and state offices. This a free event offered to the public as an informative event.

The Town Of Whitmire will host Trick Or Treat Night, Oct. 27 with Trunk Or Treats on Main, along with the Athletic Booster Club’s Annual Halloween Carnival. The carnival will be at the City Gym, located off Main, Glenn and Gilliam. According to Nina Wagner, one of the volunteer members, “We will have the inflatable rides and games set up on the tennis courts again this year.” Plenty of carnival food, games, music, costume contests for children, teens and adults. Last year’s event drew over 500 people to the carnivals’ original location.

First Baptist Church will host its Homecoming Service and luncheon Sunday, Oct. 14. Everyone is invited to attend.

Several local churches celebrated with fall homecoming services, luncheons and revivals including Friendship Baptist, Shiloh Of Whitmire and Sims Chapel Baptist.

People In The News

Congratulations to Hydea Chick on her recent crowning. The WCS senior was named Homecoming Queen of 2012.

Two former WCS students getting some play with the USC-Union Bantams. The Bantam players are getting time in fall practice games. Thomas Miller and Cory Robertson are both on the team.

The WCS girls tennis and volleyball teams are underway. Nice crowds, good numbers of family members and friends have been seen at the Main Street tennis courts this fall. WCS has a facebook page, photos, and information are displayed.
