'Go Green, Live Clean'

Monarch Elementary School is continuing it's "Go Green, Live Clean" tradition by recycling paper, plastic, aluminum, and cardboard with the assistance of the Union County Recycling Center. Pictured are Green Team Outside Collection members Wesley Erwin, Connor Harris, Bailey Walden, Madison Millwood, Zedric Fuller, Jacob Marler, and Walt Eubanks. Over 35 "Go Green, Live Clean" members collect recyclables from 4K through 5th grade classrooms and offices each Tuesday and Friday before school.

TUESDAY NIGHT ARTISTS’ GROUP will meet at the Union County Arts Council Gallery on Main Street in Union from 5:30-7:30 p.m.. Any artist working in any medium may attend this informal group of like-minded artists. Call UCAC at 864-429-2817 for more information.

LOCKHART TOWN COUNCIL will meet at 7 p.m. in the Lockhart Town Hall.

THE UNION COUNTY COUNCIL COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS, ROADS, AND BRIDGES AND COUNTY PROPERTY will meet at 5 p.m. at the County Annex Building at 322 East Main St. for a presentation of the Road Inventory System. The public is invited to attend.

SEPTEMBER 26

THE UNION COUNTY DISABILITIES AND SPECIAL NEEDS BOARD OF DIRECTORS will have their monthly meeting at noon. The meeting will be held at 226 S. Gadberry St. Lunch will be served.

THE SIMS HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1968 presents a trip to “Harrah’s Cherokee Casino,” Leaving from the old Walmart parking lot at 9:15 a.m. For further information call Betsy Thompson at 864-674-6799.

THE THOMAS JEFFERSON VINSON 25th ANNUAL FAMILY REUNION will be held at 1 p.m. at Brown’s Creek Baptist Church. Please bring a well-filled basket. Drinks, plates and cup will be furnished.

PRINCE HALL MASONS, ORDER OF THE EASTERN STARTS, MARY B. THOMAS YOUTH CIRCLE 7 KNIGHT OF PYTHAGORAS YOUNG BOYS will sit-in at 10 a.m. during the morning service at Foster Chapel Baptist Church in Jonesville.

A FATHER-CHILD TENNIS TOURNAMENT will be held at 10 a.m. at the Union County High School Tennis Courts. The tournament is open to chidren ages 6-18. The fee is $20. There will be refreshments and prizes. To sign up call Tournament Director Brad Tate at 466-7100.

OCTOBER 5

THE UNION LIONS CLUB will host a Candy Days Donation Drive. Lions will be giving away candy for donations at the Union County Stadium from 5:30 p.m. until game time, prior to the Union County High School Yellow Jackets football game against Broome. Funds raised during the annual donation drive directly support state and local programs that assist the underprivileged with eyeglasses and hearing aids. These donations also fund a Mobile Health Screening Unit, eye surgeries, and camps for blind youth. For more information, please call 426-8871.

A VETERANS ADVOCATE is in Union every third Friday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the SCWorks Union office, 103 W. Main St., Union, to discuss eligibility for health care, pension, disability and more.

THE NEW EMANUEL BAPTIST CHURCH has opened a free clothes closet in the back of the Municipal Building in Jonesville. Hours of operation will be Tuesday and Friday 9:30 a.m.-noon.

UNION COUNTY ACTION NETWORK ORGANIZATION (WATCHDOG GROUP) meets weekly on Tuesday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at 103 Main St., Union. The public is invited.
