CAMPOBELLO — The Jonesville Wildcats came up short in middle school football action at Campobello on Thursday, suffering a 12-8 loss.

The Wildcats opened the scoring in the second quarter when Quan Smith scampered in from 24 yards out and Brandon Thompson added the two point conversion.

Campobello took possession and ground out a long drive capped off by a 2-yard touchdown run with .3 left in the half. The conversion failed and Jonesville took an 8-6 lead into the break.

After intermission, Jonesville took over deep in its own territory after forcing a Campobello punt and a penalty pinned the Wildcats even further back. Campobello intercepted a Wildcats’ pass and returned it for a touchdown to complete the scoring.

“We did some things better tonight than we have all year,” said Joneville Head Coach Michael Mullinax. “There were some signs of improvement. In the end, though, it is still a loss. We have to keep working to keep getting better.”
