Merry Christmas!

Oh! Are you saying it’s too early?

Not really, as far as Lockhart is concerned. We just had our first meeting to plan our parade.

It sure would be nice if you would join us on Monday, Oct. 1 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lockhart Cafe, give us some more ideas on who to contact to be in our parade, who do you think our Grand Marshall should be this year. These are a few things that we pass around to each other.

We’re going to give award plaques out again for floats. They will be for Most Original, Most Attractive, and the Best Theme. Please make a float, and show it off.

Our parade will be on Sunday, Dec. 2. at 3 p.m. It’s always on the first Sunday of the month. Afterwards, we have a program at the bell, or, if the weather is bad, we go inside the Baptist church. They have a lot of singing.

So if you want to be in our parade, call Barry at 429-7051, the Cafe (Bernice) at 545-2346, Jeannie at 251-0555, or me at 545-6652.

You know this is a good way to advertise your business, also. Well, you think about it.

I know I’ve told this story before, but when I moved here the parade fascinated me. I could not get over the fact that every church had big floats, and dance studios had floats and girls dancing, and three bands — Lockhart, Union, and Jonesville. The ROTC marched and did routines. Individuals had floats. Well, it was real nice. And we have such a big crowd watching it would be nice to recreate all this again.

Vendors are welcome and as you know we don’t charge, but come early to pick your spot. And I know this doesn’t make it to Chester, but if anyone sees Sonny Porter, tell him to give me a call, because his Shrine Group always comes out and sells at our Christmas Parade and I want to get our order in early.

Anniversaries

Sept. 27 is Bobbie Sue and Melvin Revis’s 60th wedding anniversary. WOW!

Mary Ann and Wayne Grady’s is the 25th, and Lynn and Jimmy Vaughn’s is the 29th.

Birthday

Lindsay Inman and C.J. Gill will have a birthday on Sept. 30.

A Reunion

Last Saturday, I went into Pizza Hut to get a pizza, of course, for our supper, and I’m just sitting and waiting in the outer room, because this is a takeout. And being a typical woman, and not trying to be nosey and stare at people, but someone caught my interest, and so I’m sitting and wondering is it or not someone I know? Then they called his name, aha! Chad Russell, this little boy I knew 30 years ago has become a man. But the face never changed.

It was real good to see him, and know he’s become a business owner. He’s opened a computer shop on Main Street called Better Computer Services. I remember seeing it by the old hotel (now apartments). Then one of my customers told me that he had come out to her house to help her with her computer, and she was real pleased.

No Chauffeur Service

Haven’t seen much of Chuck lately, to know what trouble he’s been up to, or who he’s giving trouble to. He did call me Monday, couldn’t find me though.

Well, I called him around 5:30 to see what he wanted, and he wanted me to take him to Spartanburg to the Academy. Well, I’d been in Spartanburg since 9 a.m. for an appointment and didn’t get out until 5 p.m. so I was about at the Lighthouse Fish Camp (on my way home) when we talked. Well guess who did not go to the Academy?

That’s like last week, he called to see what I was doing and I told him I had a vet appointment at 9:15 and a meeting with a health nurse at 11:30 and afterwards an appointment with my daughter. Why? He wanted me to take him to Spartanburg. Does this man have any luck with me taking him anywhere? Poor Chuck.

Last week I thought he was fixing David’s porch, instead he was putting up tree stands at David’s, and helping his brother Marvin build a porch for brother Jay. See why I never have any news, I can’t keep up with anyone, nor keep anything straight.

Rent For A New Family

Mandie did a great job of cleaning our rental house, behind the town hall. We just had it all rewired, and I went to Paradise and bought 10 new ceiling lights. Now we just need to put our new front storm door on and we are ready for a new family to come and see if they want to live in it.

New Resident

If you see a new face in Lockhart running, it’s our new resident, Marty. We are so glad that he decided to make Lockhart his home.

Moving Back

It looks like Ann Martin is moving back to town. She’s having the house on Canal Street all redone. Welcome back.

Medical Stories

Billy Gault will be going back to work after hand surgery this next week. He got a little bored being home.

Dennis Broome will be home for a little while to recover from his minor accident.

I hope Carolyn Rash recovers quite nicely after having Retina surgery. Jeannie brought her in last week to get a hair cut and she was walking real well. Remember, she broke her hip on her last visit to my shop, and had to have surgery.

I will be so glad when I have time to get back to my chiropractor, Dr. Bridgett Sherman Miller. She actually got rid of the spur in my foot. I am not having any pain in that area at all. And my knee is almost healed. She got rid of all the discomfort in the upper and lower leg, but when I had to quit going for awhile we were just starting on the knee. I know that after years of lower back pain, physical therapy, I no longer have any discomfort, she really helped me.

Listen, after you get to a certain age, you need to really grow up and know you cannot do the splits and leave the cheer leading routines to the teenagers. But I know I can do it, by accident.

Clueless At Sea

A cruise ship passes a small desert island. Everyone watches as a ratty looking bearded man runs out on the beach and starts shouting and waving his hands.

“Who’s that?” asks one of the passengers.

“I have no idea.” replies the captain. “But every year we sail past, and he goes nuts.”

Goodnight 545-6652
