Anthony, a former teacher and coach at Union High School, has been appointed to serve as Rep. Phil Owens’ designee on the committee. Owens is chairman of the House Education and Public Works Committee. Anthony has served in the S.C. House of Representatives since 2003.
A Union native, Anthony graduated from Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C. An accomplished football coach, Anthony retired as head coach of the Union High School Yellow Jackets team following the 2004 season. He was named 2003 Football Coach of the Year by the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association.
Active in community and government affairs, Anthony serves on the board of directors for the United Way of Spartanburg, Union and Cherokee counties. He is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for Union and Gaffney counties. Anthony was named 2003 Legislator of the Year by the South Carolina Education Association, and was named a Champion of Public Education in 2004. He is also an active member of Rotary International.
“I consider it a great honor to be appointed by Rep. Owens as his designee to the EOC,” Anthony said. “As a committee member, I look forward to having input as we work on implementing a new statewide test for South Carolina schools.”
