The Union County Carnegie Library will be closed Thursday while the staff is honored by the S.C. General Assembly.

The library was selected as Best Small Library in America for 2009 by Library Journal. The award honors the library for its emphasis on customer service, welcoming attitude toward children, and up-to-date computer services. As Best Small Library, Carnegie was featured in the Feb. 1 edition of Library Journal magazine and will receive a $15,000 award from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The staff will be State Rep. Mike Anthony’s guests Thursday at the S.C. House of Representatives. They will sit in the House gallery while Anthony takes the podium to read a concurrent resolution of the General Assembly honoring the library. The resolution, which Anthony introduced, will also touch on the history of the library and review the growth it has experienced in recent years.

The library will reopen Friday on its regular schedule.
