UNION — A reception was held Tuesday evening for the 2012-2013 Arthur State Bank Junior Board of Directors.
The reception included food, fellowship and drawings for Carolina Panthers tickets, which were won by Jayla Crocker, Kristin Clayton and Chasmyn Smith.
The Arthur State Bank Junior Board of Directors was established in 2009 by Carlisle J. Oxner III, bank president and CEO. The educational program is designed to expose students to the banking environment and promote civic leadership and responsibility. The program is directed by John Gregory, assistant vice president and loan officer.
This year’s junior board consists of 25 rising juniors and seniors from Union County High School: Kelsie Coker, Brittany Moore, Jayla Crocker, Haley Palmer, Chasmyn Smith, Abby Allen, Gray Ransom, Kennedy Crosby, Kristin Clayton, Bess Lawson, Taylor Peahuff, Jordan Lundeen, Conley Trammell, Will Holcombe, David Beavans, Evan Haney, Joseph Beavans, Trey Smith, Grant Osborne, Michael Todd Harris, Harrison Kelly, Aaron Bailey, Matthew Barnett, Kayce Edwards and Jordan Spencer.
To qualify for the board, students must have at least a 3.5 overall grade point average, a 95 percent attendance rate and no major discipline infractions.
Each year, the junior board takes on a different community project. In 2009-2010, the 10 students on the board worked in conjunction with the South Carolina chapter of Make-A-Wish to raise approximately $7,000 for a local child with Trichothiodystrophy (TTD). During the 2010-2011 school year, the board raised approximately $3,000 for The Potter’s Storehouse food distribution program in Jonesville. Last year, the board formed a Relay for Life team called Cancer Slayers which raised $9,592.55.
The board will choose this year’s community project within the next two months.
