UNION — The seventh-grade Sims Tigers opened the regular season with a 22-2 win over the visiting Gable Bucks on Wednesday.

The Tigers boasted a solid running and passing game that Gable had no answer for. Quarterback Bryan Good found open receivers throughout the contest including two touchdown hook-ups with Terrance Briggs for 79- and 50-yard scores. Jerome Henry ran in a two-point conversion for the Tigers and Ladarius Jeter scored on a 36-yard touchdown haul.

The Sims defense was equally impressive, keeping the Bucks out of the endzone and applying pressure to the Gable quarterback. Briggs and Ladarius Jeter each picked off a pass as a result.

Sims will face D.R. Hill next Wednesday on the road and Coach Mitchell Moss is pleased to enter Week 2 with a 1-0 record.

“This was a great win for our seventh-grade football team,” said Moss. “For weeks they have been going against our eighth-graders and that paid off. The offensive and defensive lines did a great job of controlling the line of scrimmage. There are some things we need to correct, but I thought this was a great win for our team and coaching staff.”
