COLUMBIA — Two members of the staff of U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint will bring constituent service to Union on Thursday.

In a statement released this morning, Seth Blanton, Constituent Service Representative, announced that he and fellow Constituent Service Representative Will Wharton will be in a “mobile office” at the Union County Museum from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Blanton said the mobile office is part of an effort by the senator’s staff to bring constituent service to the smaller communities of South Carolina.

“It is our basic desire and emphasis over the last year to branch out from the larger population centers where we have offices,” Blanton said. “It’s essentially bringing constituent service to the constituents. We just recognize the desire for many to have a face to face meeting. We want to make that available to as many people as possible.”

Blanton said that he and Wharton will be available to meet with, discuss and address the needs of Union area residents seeking assistance on a variety of issues including the grants process, Social Security, disability, veterans issues and other matters related to the federal government.

“We’ll be available for those two hours to meet with individuals on an individual basis,” Blanton said. “We’ll be there to hear their concerns about the federal government or to assist them with any federal issues they may be experiencing personally.”

Blanton said residents will not have to bring any paperwork or documentation with them except for what they feel is pertinent to their situation. He said he and Wharton will have all the information necessary to assist them with any needs related to federal services and programs.

Museum Director Ola Jean Kelly said the mobile office will be in the meeting room in the basement of the museum. She said those wanting to attend the constituent service event can enter through either the front entrance at 127 W. Main St. or the back entrance on Hunter Alley.

“They just called and asked if they could use the room,” Kelly said this afternoon. “We were delighted.”
