Southern Exposure, a group of 12 mid-career artists from the Upstate, will display their artwork in the Union County Arts Center beginning Monday.

These talented artists have exhibited together locally and regionally for more than 30 years. The group has participated in a variety of arts-related projects — from gallery shows in New York and Kentucky to producing artwork for two Hub City books. The group participated in three major exhibitions last year at Carolina Gallery in Spartanburg, the Red Clover Gallery in Landrum and Upstairs Alliance in Tryon, N.C.

Through the years, the by-invitation-only group has produced many shows with a variety of themes. The most recent include “Trees” and “The Horse Course: Celebrating the Equestrian Life.”

A public reception for the Union show is planned for Friday, March 6, from 6-8 p.m. The exhibit is entitled “Southern Exposure — 12 Upstate Artists Visit Union.” The show will feature approximately 48 recent paintings, mixed media works, prints, ceramics, photography, sculpture and weavings.

Composed primarily of art teachers, the group meets monthly in members’ homes for business and inspiration. Doris Turner, Southern Exposure president, said the organization was formed to give its members incentive to continue producing fresh work, to show as a group and to provide each other with artistic support. Other members are Carol Augthun, Jessica Barnes, David Benson, Amy Goldstein-Rice, Claire Miller Hopkins, Linda Hudgins, Cynthia Link, Sara Dame Setzer, Mark Olencki, David Zacharias and Ann Wenz.

The Union County Arts Center is located at 116 E. Main St., Union. The gallery is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The exhibit closes April 10.
