CARLISLE — The Town of Carlisle is getting ready for a food distribution event for town residents in need and an early learning program to prepare children for kindergarten.

The Carlisle Town Council held a short meeting on Aug. 28, in which two decisions were made. The first was to purchase new garbage cans for town residents who do not already have them, and the other was to temporarily change the hours of the town playground. The playground will now be open from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The town will also hold a food distribution on Wednesday, Sept. 19, for Carlisle residents only. The distribution event — hosted at Carlisle Town Hall in partnership with The Potter’s Storehouse — will last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Another program getting under way for the town is an early learning program, which will also be held at the town hall. The program — for parents and children ages 1-4 — will be held each Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon. The program will prepare children to begin kindergarten by introducing them to story time and various other parent/child activities.
