Have you ever noticed the nice playground we have for the little children? We call it Gregory’s Kids World Park.

Do you know why? Because June and Hugh Gregory put their hard work and sweat in making it as great as it is. Did you see the train they made, for the children to play in?

People have donated money to buy some of the swings. Just a couple of weeks ago, Barry Canupp donated two baby swings. And this week, the big kids tried to put their bottoms in them and broke one.

Saturday, I watched the big boys standing on top of the train. I asked them to please get down before they broke it, but I found out today, they broke it.

We used to have a picnic table, on which parents would use it for birthday parties. The teens got rough with it also.

Now I know none of the kids involved in tearing our children’s park are reading this, ( they don’t have time, they’re too busy thinking what else they can tear up), but I’m asking you, that if you see any of the big kids in the park, please ask them to leave. We have a basketball court for them. At the very back of the children’s park is enough room for touch football for them. Which, some of the kids take the pleasure of it, and that’s okay.

Prayer Request

We are asking prayer for Jill Scarborough, and Michael Adams (Donnie’s son).

Lockhart Church Of God

Did you go to Lockhart Church of God, last Sunday? They celebrated their 75th year. The mayor and council members (except me, I missed a wonderful time by working) went. The place was packed. Everyone loved the service and singing and food. Mert said there was a lot of food, and it all was good.

Burning Leaves

Before you start burning trash or yard leaves you need to go to the town hall (or my shop) and get the brochure from DHEC. You may be in violation, and will get a visit from them. Maybe a fine, also. You cannot burn trash! And you have to be 1,000 feet from any structure before burning leaves, branches, etc. Check it out.

Honey-Do

Guess who I saw the other day, Chuck! He’s now working seven days a week, and we love it!

Well, he really didn’t say that, but I did. He’ll do anything to get out of my “Honey-Do List.” Of course for the 13 weeks of layoff he might have thought about the things I asked to be fixed. I’ll never know. He did come and cut my grass at the shop. With all this rain, the grass really gets out of hand. See what you guys in Germany are missing?

I heard from Deanna Burns that my story is read by Russ, in Germany, so I will take this time to say hello and all of you are missed and thought of on a daily basis. And you’re all getting away from the Honey-Do Lists. But it will be doubled when you get back in a year.

Full Stomachs

Ailene and I went to Rock Hill today for an MASC meeting with other mayors and council members and staff Members. It was so we could find out what bills were passed by the General Assembly.

With our town as little as it is about the only thing we came away with was a full stomach.

The food was good. We had pork barbecue, barbecue chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans and banana pudding. Yum!

Really though, it did make us think of what would be good for our town, so now we’ll start working on it.

The Mission

Don’t forget to sign up to fix a bedroom at the mission. The churches associated with Lockhart have signed up. But this is not just about us but all church groups. This mission is for everyone.

Homecoming

First Baptist Church in Lockhart will be having their homecoming September 16. The church will provide ham, chicken, tea and rolls everyone else please bring a side dish or dessert to finish off the meal. It will be held at the New Life Building behind the Hot Spot.

Birthdays

I receive some belated birthdays for August.

On the 27th was Rhiannon Revis’ birthday. The 28th was Hannah Roark and Curtis Belue’s. The 29th wasTrina Roark’s birthday. On September 2 is Paige Brock’s. On the 6th is Rick McCloud’s.

Anniversaries

The 25th was Barbara and Gene Sprouse’s anniversary. The 27th was Gem and Louise McCutcheon’s and John and Melissa Gibson’s. The 29th Rhonda and Brent Greer’s.

Off Base Joke

I stood next to a retired Marine Corps general at a military trade show, watching a cutting edge robot navigate an obstacle course.

“I’ll bet you didn’t have these back in your day,” I said.

“Oh we did” he answered. “They were called privates.”

Hitchhiker Joke

Did you hear about the hitchhiker who never got anywhere? He’d get up early to avoid traffic.

Trophy Joke

I used to play sports. Then I realized you can buy trophies. Now I’m good at everything.

Well so much for right now. I’ll close and say goodnight. (864) 545-6652.
