A second Carlisle man has been charged with murder in an Aug. 12 shooting incident that left a Union teen dead and another person wounded.
Union County Sheriff David Taylor announced Monday evening that Devonta Elemeshion Mobley, 20, 124 Lawrence St., Carlisle, was arrested Friday and charged in the shooting death of Dequan Tyrone Jones. Taylor said that Mobley is charged with murder, attempted murder, malicious injury, and discharging a firearm into a dwelling.
Jones, 17, was a rising senior at Union County High School when he was shot and mortally wounded in the Lukesville Road area around 2:30 a.m Sunday, Aug. 12. A second victim, 20, was also wounded in the incident and he and Jones were transported in personal vehicles to Wallace Thomson Hospital where Jones died from his wounds. The wounds of the second victim were not life-threatening.
Mobley is the second person to be arrested and charged with murder in the case.
Chadrick Harold Johnson, 23, 851 Cambridge St., Carlisle, was taken into custody the day of the shooting. Witnesses told deputies they saw Johnson in a 2005 Accura firing shots at the scene. The warrant for Johnson’s arrest states that he shot Jones several times causing his death and also fired several gunshots hitting several vehicles and houses in the area.
Mobley and Johnson are both being held in the Union County Jail.
When he announced Johnson’s arrest, Taylor said that more than one gun had been used in the incident and that deputies had recovered one gun from the scene and were looking for others.
Taylor said Monday he would have no further comment on the case as the investigation is ongoing, but that more arrests are expected.
