Greenville-based watercolorist, Ashley Kirby, put on a demonstration recently that left the large crowd at his show’s opening reception wide-eyed with amazement. As part of the reception for “A Celebration of Watercolor; Original Works by J. Ashley Kirby,” Kirby set out to paint a completed watercolor in 20 minutes.

After demonstrating the steps that he takes with his painting, and answering questions along the way, the final painting took 23 minutes. Still not bad. Nobody seemed to mind the three-minute overrun.

Kirby is this year’s juror for the Union County Arts Councils’ 2012 Juried Art Show and will be teaching a watercolor workshop at UCAC Sept. 21 and 22 at the UCAC gallery on Main Street in Union.

“The workshop is filling up very quickly,” said UCAC Coordinator Jackie Senn. “Ashley is a very popular and entertaining teacher and we only have a few spots remaining for his class.”

For more information about the workshop, call 864-429-2817 or email UCAC at ucac@bellsouth.net.
