The dog days of late summer are upon us, and soon many folks will be gearing up for another hunting season in South Carolina.
The Union County 4-H K-9 Club will host a special meeting on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 6 p.m. in the Flower Building on the fairgrounds. A local dog enthusiast and hunter, along with his Labrador retriever, will demonstrate basic dog obedience, and share some special tips in working with hunting dogs. The meeting is free, and open to the public.
Plans for the upcoming Responsible Dog Ownership Day — slated for Sept. 29 — will also be discussed at the Thursday evening meeting.
Each September, AKC hosts Responsible Dog Ownership days across the nation to educate the dog-loving public about the importance of being a responsible owner. Whether you are looking to add a puppy to your family for the first time, or are a lifelong dog lover, this event will be a great time to “bone up” on all things canine.
Several dog breeders will be on hand to share information about their particular dogs, the Canine Good Citizen Test will be available, dog microchips, a variety of educational activities, and even a fun dog show is being planned. Booths are still available for anyone interested in exhibiting at this event.
