CARLISLE — The Town of Carlisle is seeking donations of school supplies to help the community’s children be ready for the beginning of school later this month.

The town will hold a “Back To School Bash” and “Community Fun Day” on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 2-7 p.m. at the Carlisle Playground at the intersection of Pinckney and Cambridge streets. The event will feature food, games, a fashion/talent show and more activities of interest to Carlisle area residents of all ages.

The main purpose of the event is to celebrate the beginning of the new school year and prepare the community’s children for the classroom by providing them with school supplies. Mayor Mary Ferguson-Glenn said the town is asking for donations of school supplies including pencils, notebook paper, hard cover notebooks, folders, erasers and other classroom items. In addition to the school supplies, Ferguson-Glenn said the town is also hoping to provide children with tote bags to carry those supplies to school and between classes.

The Back To School Bash/Community Fun Day is an annual event and Ferguson-Glenn said she is hoping the public will help the town make this year’s event as successful as those in the past have been.

“This is our 12th year of holding our Back School To Bash/Community Fun Day,” Ferguson-Glenn said Friday. “We’ve had a great deal of success with it in the past, providing many children with the school supplies they need to start the school year. We’ve had that success because the community has come forward and donated the supplies the children will need for class and we hope we continue to get that support and have another successful year.”

In addition to donations of school supplies, the town is also asking for volunteers to assist with the Back To School Bash/Community Fun Day.

“We need volunteers to help the children get ready for the talent/fashion show,” Ferguson-Glenn said. “We need volunteers to help distribute the school supplies and tote bags. We need to help prepare and serve the food. There’s a whole list of things we need help with so we’re hoping we’ll have a lot of volunteers.”
