GAFFNEY — Veterans will be the first in line to apply for and/or be interviewed by prospective employers during a job fair in Gaffney Thursday morning.
Melody Brutkiewicz, Business Services Consultant for Union and Cherokee Counties for SCWorks Upstate, said Tuesday that the job fair will begin at 9 a.m. and for the first hour only veterans will be permitted inside.
“Veterans always have preference with SCWorks,” Brutkiewicz said. “Veterans who want to participate must bring either their Service Identification Card or their DD214.”
At 10 a.m., the general public will be admitted to the job fair which will run until 1 p.m.
Brutkiewicz said SCWorks Upstate — which has offices in Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union counties — is holding the job fair in conjunction with the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce. The job fair will be held at the SC State Government Army National Guard building at 410 Hampshire Drive, Gaffney.
Companies with more than 170 positions to fill will participate in the job fair. Brutkiewicz said that while the majority of the positions to be filled are in Cherokee County, a number of employers will also be looking to fill positions at their places of business in a wide variety of locations including Spartanburg and Union counties and even North Carolina. The companies include a number of manufacturing firms, retail businesses, and banks. A Union County employer that will be participating is Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.
Brutkiewicz said persons seeking a job through the job fair should bring copies of their resumes as well as work information for completing applications. She also urged those who will attend to dress appropriately.
