The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) plans to replace the bridge over Big Brown Creek on S-44-86 (River Road) in Union County.
In an announcement released Friday, the SCDOT states that “this bridge qualifies for federal funding, is structurally deficient and has been approved by the SCDOT Commission for replacement.”
Contractor
The announcement further states that “the project was awarded to Saddlebrook Construction on June 12. Road S-44-86 (River Road) will be closed to through traffic and the contractor will begin work on July 30. The estimated completion date is Jan. 25, 2013. This date may vary due to unforeseen events.”
Detour
The SCDOT further stated that “due to the relatively low traffic volume, and to construct this bridge on an expedited schedule, the road will be closed at the bridge site during the project and traffic detoured. The detour will use S-44-389 (Neal Shoals Road), S-44-391 (Happy Valley Road), SC-49 (Lockhart Highway) and S-44-146 (Old Ferry Road). The net detour length will be approximately 9.1 miles.”
