UNION, SC – Rev. Linda Marie Gist Worthy, 54, 317 S. Church Street entered eternal rest July 23, 2012.
A native of Richmond, VA, she was the widow Dennis Worthy and the daughter of Carrie Mae Wicks Gist of the home and the late Johnnie Gist, Jr. She was a member and associate minister of St. Paul Baptist Church. She was a 1976 graduate of Union High School. She attended Cherokee Nursing School, Spartanburg Methodist College, and Spartanburg Technical College. She was retired from Tyger River Correctional Institution. She was member of Glory Divine Dancers and was involved with several outreach ministries.
Survivors in addition to her mother include one son, Dennis Worthy of Gaffney; one daughter, Angela (Rev. Maverick) Scott of Spartanburg; six brothers, Willie (Melinda) Gist of Whitmire, Eddie Gist of New Haven, CT, David Gist and Lamark Gist, both of Union, James (Brenda) Gist of Santuc, and Patrick (Darlene) Gist of Charlotte; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Erica Marie Gist Worthy.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Wyatt Chapel Baptist Church with burial in New Chapel AME Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home.
