The Whitmire Golf Association is having a busy summer again with their co-hosting of the Annual “Hook A Kid On Golf ” summer learning program for youth. This year’s numbers look good. Twelve kids signed up for the program, the largest group Instructor Tommy Suber has worked with so far. One of the most fun things about this summer program is the end of course tourney, where the kids play a mini-competitive tournament. The parents get to enjoy this as a Saturday morning social event, driving the carts or riding on the cart with their child, as they get to know each other as the kids finesse the greens. We say a big Thank You to Tommy Suber and the Whitmire Golf Association for encouraging our young folks to learn this sport, considered a gentleman’s game, and for educating our young people on the rules, manners, etiquette and sportsmanship associated with golf.

Parents and youth, if you missed the sign up for “Hook A Kid On Golf,” you can play free all year . The Whitmire Golf Association welcomes school age youth to enjoy the course, play free, yes FREE after school. No green fees. It’s a beautiful walk along the pines near the Enoree River. The Association members ask that a parent accompany a child if carts are used. Youth under age 12 are not allowed to use a cart, unless accompanied by an adult.

Can’t beat this deal, golf is not a cheap sport to play. It’s the cost of the sport that turns many people off, The Whitmire Golf Association want to make the sport more accessible and enjoyable to the general public. Interested persons can contact Club president Billy Hollingsworth ay 803-271-1522 or leave a comment on the Whitmire Golf Association Facebook page.

The Ladies of Bethesda Baptist Church is hosting their “Ladies Night Out” Saturday, Aug. 10 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale, Joyce Dallas is the contact person, 803-694-2775.

Whitmire Community School students are volunteering to do charity work at Newberry County Memorial Hospital this summer, I hope to have more details on their job duties for next week.

Allrighty readers, “Garabund The Deadline Fairy ” is spraying glittery deadline dust all over me, and the keys. Course it could be sawdust, we have been working on a house project that required sanding, varnish, box cutters. Want to guess what we did? And still doing? Picture “dizzy from the fumes?”
