The Union County Arts Council’s Writers’ Group will host a visit by Jonesville native and published author Joshua Mims at their monthly meeting Aug. 13. Mims will be talking to the group on the subjects of getting published, how he comes up with story ideas and his organization techniques when writing a book. He will also try to answer any questions that the group’s members might have.
Mim’s first book, The Five Santas, is a cozy mystery wherein Dan Landis is slumming the Christmas season at a Department Store. While chasing a shoplifter he discovers the body of Santa … a street corner Santa specifically. As the bodies keep piling up Dan races to protect the department store Santa, save the day, and discover the true meaning of Christmas. He also needs to find a present for his partner Abbey, steer clear of a gun-toting cowboy named Tex, and not get fired by snooty store manager Mr. Peters. But, that whole meaning of Christmas thing is important too.
His second book, Cult of Koo Kway, picks up right where The Five Santas leaves off. It also tells how Dan and Abbey met.
“The best way to describe this book,” said Mims “is that it’s a light-hearted murder mystery that centers around the Gullah people, a body in the kitchen, and fuzzy handcuffs.”
The Cult of Koo Kway is scheduled to come out this September and, along with The Five Santas, is part of a four-book series called “The Oncoming Storm.”
Mims currently resides in Orangeburg, SC where he teaches Communications at S.C. State University.
