Camp Cloverbud — the last 4-H day camp of the summer — is approaching, with only a few slots still open.
The 4-H camping and day camp season has been in full swing this summer. Boys and girls have enjoyed a variety of activities, from studying macro-invertebrates and microscopic life at Foster Park Lake, to hiking, learning to mark waypoints with a GPS, building and programming LEGO robots, archery, shooting sports and tackle crafting. Five Union County youth enjoyed a two-night, three-day primitive camping event, Camp Wild, at Chester State Park. They joined 4-H’ers from York, Chester, Lancaster and Fairfield counties in a traditional campout, complete with canoeing, swimming, campfires and of course, s’mores!
Participants in the 4-H Explorer Day Camp enjoyed a virtual tour of our two youngest states, Hawaii and Alaska. With the help of Google Earth, 4-H’ers traveled across the ocean to look inside the cone of a volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii, and island hop to take in the beaches of Ohau, and the coral reefs of the northern islands. From the tropical beaches of Hawaii, they moved to the glacier fields and remote forests of Alaska. 4-H’ers studied land forms, agriculture, wildlife and cultures of both states.
Camp Cloverbud, the last day camp of the summer is scheduled for July 31-Aug. 2, from 9 a.m.-12 noon each day. This camp is especially designed for the younger 4-Her — ages 5-7 — with lessons and crafts to spark their imaginations. There are still a few openings left in Camp Cloverbud, and it would be a fun opportunity for little ones to finish out the summer.
