Union finished off Belton Sunday night with a 17-7 seven inning road win to advance to round two of American Legion action, just three wins away from State.
Union’s arsenal of hitters had a field day, racking up 19 hits off the Belton pitching staff.
“It was real good to see the guys hitting the ball the way they were tonight,” said Coach Tommy Ford after the game. “Getting it done in three games gives our guys a two day rest and also a chance to work on some things in the field. Errors have been hurting us throughout the playoffs and we’re going to try to cut those out.”
Seth Osborne picked up the win from the mound, hurling six innings with six strikeouts while giving up six hits. Jimmy Johnson pitched an inning of relief with one strikeout, allowing no hits.
Union is set to begin round two on Wednesday at Timken Complex facing the winner of Monday night’s York/Greenville game. The winner of the best of five series will advance to the State tournament in Greenwood.
