SANTUC — Just two days after it was issued, a boil water notice was repealed for some customers of the Santuck-Hebron Water Company.

The company issued the boil water notice Thursday morning after a break in a 6’ line along Whitmire Highway near Tinker Creek Road raised the possibility of contaminates getting into the system. Santuck-Hebron advised customers living in the Santuc, Carlisle and Whitmire areas of Union County to boil their water for one minute before drinking it or cooking with it. Approximately half of the company’s 1,300 customers were effected by the boil water notice.

In issuing the notice, Office Manager Anita Smith said the notice was being issued as a precaution because while there was no confirmed contamination of the system, the loss of pressure raised the possibility of contamination. Smith said the line was being flushed and the laboratory had been contacted to analyze samples taken from the water to determine if any contamination had occurred. She said the company’s contractor, Dever Solomon, was also in the process of repairing the line.

While most of those effected by the boil water notice continued to receive water, five households were left without service until the line was repaired. Smith said Thursday that she’d first learned about the break when a customer called that morning around 2:30 a.m. and said they had no water.

On Monday, Smith announced that the leak had been repaired and service restored to the households that had been without it since the break occurred. She said that the lines had been flushed and that laboratory analysis of the water samples taken had found no sign of contamination and so the boil water notice was repealed.

“The leak was fixed Thursday afternoon around 2 p.m.,” Smith said. “Water samples were taken around 7 a.m. Friday morning and the report came in Saturday morning that all was clear, no contamination. We no longer had to boil our water.”

Smith said the boil water notice was repealed at 8:22 a.m. Saturday.
