After being postponed due to weather, Union took the field on Saturday with a 6-5 lead. Belton had runners on first and second base when Rogers seated the final two outs for the win, tying the series at 1-1.
Union's hitters compiled eight runs off of 11 hits while Rogers held Belton to a single run with one hit in the ninth inning.
Union's first run came in the bottom of the first when Jake Walton sacrificed to score Devontae "Fox" Glenn and Post 22 added two more in the fourth with a two-RBI triple courtesy of Recus Hughes.
Rogers did not allow a base runner until the top of the sixth when Belton dropped a hit into right field. Unrattled, Rogers ended the inning on a strikeout.
In Union's portion of the inning, Glenn singled up the middle and Walton lined to left field but the two were left on.
Rogers struck out the lead off batter in the top of the seventh before giving up his first walk of the contest. A fly out and a strikeout later, Union was back on offense where Rogers drew a walk, Nathan Williford doubled to left field and Josh Simpson was issued a walk to load the bases. Juwuan Rice used a fielder's choice to score Rogers and pad the lead at 4-0.
Union sprayed four hits in the eighth to double its lead and Belton scratched a run across in the ninth with a RBI single on one out. The shutout was spoiled but with the pressure off, Rogers retired the next two batters on strikes for the 8-1 win.
Williford led the offense, going 3-4 at the plate with a walk, a double and two singles.
A Union win tonight in Belton will end the series with Post 22 advancing to Upper State. A loss will result in a tie breaker tomorrow night at Timken Complex at 7:00.
