The Union County Arts Council held the first “Jam With Supper” recently with the UCAC gallery “jammed” with musicians and listeners. A total of 25 people attended the inaugural event and expectations are that it will continue to grow.
“I was very surprised at the turnout,” said event organizer Harold Senn. “Our ‘Jam With Lunch’ attendance has been off this summer, so we decided to try a Monday night jam. We had six or seven musicians who can’t make the midday jam show up for this one.”
In order to separate this music session from “Jam With Lunch” the event will continue under the name “Monday Night Music.”
“The name change came about for a couple of reasons,” said Senn. “Most people, when they hear ‘jam’, think about bluegrass jams. We’ll do bluegrass if somebody wants to, but we also do classic rock, Americana, beach, gospel and any other kind of music that anybody wants to play. Also, some people thought that supper would be provided. We’re kicking around that idea, but it hasn’t happened yet.”
Another change being considered is the addition of a PA system. “We’ll probably add a small PA next time just for the singers. It was pretty hard to sing over that many instruments all playing at once,” said Senn.
“Monday Night Music” will meet again on Monday, July 16 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.. at the UCAC gallery on Main Street in Union.
