The Union County Dixie Boys All Stars are still alive and battling in the post season tournament.

On Saturday, the team traveled to the Rodman Sports Complex in Chester for game one and suffered a 13-1 loss to Chester, despite the efforts of JD Cheek, who was 2 for 2 at the plate. The only other hits for Union came by way of Dexlie Inman and AJ Hunter, who contributed one apiece.

“We seemed to be a little intimidated by Chester’s pitching staff,” said Assistant Coach Theo Johnson who added that the the sweltering heat also factored in. “We only had four hits that whole game and that ain’t us.”

Union County responded to the opening loss with an 11-0 elimination victory over Rock Hill White.

Cheek hurled the shutout and helped himself at the plate, going 3-4. Franklin Thompson also provided offensive stabilty with three hits.

“We still didn’t have hits throughout the lineup but we were patient and those hits we got paid off,” said Johnson.

On Monday, Union County evicted York with a 14-1 shellacking.

“We woke up,” said Johnson. “Everybody came to play and we had hitting throughout the lineup.”

Hunter Bailey was the winning pitcher on Monday and AJ Hunter led at the plate, going 3-3. Coco Smith was 3-4 and Decorin Jeter was 2-2. Shomar Glenn and Thompson were 2-3 and Jordan Jeter belted out a solo homer.

“I feel like now we’re ready,” said Johnson. “I’m looking forward to tonight’s game and hoping we make it back to play Chester again and redeem ourselves.”
