BUFFALO — A Fourth of July tradition that began more than a decade ago will continue Wednesday evening when the night sky over the old Buffalo Mill Pond will be lit up with fireworks during the Buffalo Community’s Annual July 4th Party at the Pond celebration.
Jim Maness, chairman of the Buffalo Festivals Committee, said this year’s Party at the Pond, which will be held from 6-10 p.m., will begin with a golf cart parade, the celebration’s first.
“This is the first time we’ve had this,” Maness said Monday morning. “The Golf Cart Parade will be on Buffalo Street next to the mill pond. It’s open to anyone who wants to drive or ride in it. We’ve already had 8-10 call and say they will participate and I’ve talked to some others who’ve said they’ll participate in it too.”
In addition to the golf cart parade, Maness said more vendors are expected to take part in the Party at the Pond.
“Since the Party on the Pond and the celebration at Foster Park Lake are on different nights, we’ve had more vendors call asking about being here Wednesday,” Maness said. “We’ve already had five say they will be here and any vendor interested in setting up here for the Party at the Pond is welcome to, there’s no charge. We just ask that they call us and let us know they’re coming so we can help them get a place.”
The Party at the Pond has been the Buffalo Community’s annual Fourth of July celebration for more than 10 years and Maness said this year’s celebration will feature many of the same activities as the previous ones.
“We’ll have a stage with a DJ and there will be a place for people to dance,” Maness said. “We’ll also have karaoke.”
The celebration will conclude with a fireworks display over the pond that will begin at dark.
