The SCDOT is proposing the SC 9 Bridge Replacement Project, which consists of replacing four structurally deficient bridges along SC 9 over the Broad River. The Broad River, the Broad River Canal, Canal Road and Lockhart Drive bridges are proposed for replacement. These existing bridges were designed and constructed between 1938 and 1947, with the oldest of the four being approximately 74 years old.

There will be a public hearing during the late fall of 2012. SCDOT has selected 2A as the alignment to proceed forward with. If you remember they had five different ways to go. This one is on the side of the Senior Building. According to the map I’m looking at, it will start this side of Broad River Mart, and will tie in at Union Road. They are suggesting that we keep the existing bridge to use as a walkway and it would be safer to stand on for fishing off the bridge. Now when you fish, you feel the vibration of the trucks passing so close to you. I know a lot of you were worried about a detour, because it would be way out of the way, but the way the map looks, I think the bridge will stay open while they work. Let’s hope.

We’re going to be passing out the newsletter with the map on it, soon. But in the mean time you can come by the Town Hall and see the large map, that we have on the wall.

Vacations

Dennis Hornes’ family just got back from Disney World. Laura Dabbs’ family are back from Texas. They enjoyed seeing Ethan, but I think they were glad to be back in the cool weather. Ha, Ha!

Carolyn went to the beach for a week, and said it rained almost all week. She might have laid out at the beach a couple of days, but said they had a wonderful time just sitting on the porch visiting.

Sherry and Rick must have been at the beach the same week, because she said they had rain, also. Dennis B. had the week off and I believed he spent most of his time golfing.

Cathy, Sam and family were here visiting her mother, Betty Dabbs. Cathy is living in Virginia.

Connie Belle, and her two daughters were here visiting old friends and Mr. Redman (her stepfather) from New Mexico. She also took the girls to the beach. I talked to her while she was on the road coming, she said they would take three days getting here, so they could see the countryside. It would be a 25-hour drive if they came straight. I didn’t see her while she was here, but some of her schoolmates had the pleasure. She said time just went too fast.

Accident

Well, this week I have two black eyes. Yes, I’m beginning to believe I’m accident prone. It’s the phone’s fault.

I was in the back room at my shop and when the phone rang I dropped what I was doing and hurried to answer it; tripped over a cord in the hallway, crashed into a chair, and two large wastebaskets, by this time I was flying forward like a superhero. This body flying ended with my forehead crashing into the edge of a cabinet. It felt like a valley between two mountains on my forehead.

Two days later, I had bruises where my nose piece of my glasses were and two black eyes. Lee and Mert brought that to my attention, all I was concerned with was my lumpy forehead. Now it’s spreading.
