Fifteen Union County High School JROTC Cadets stood out among their peers during the Junior Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) earlier this month.

The UCHS cadets were among 832 JROTCcadets from 63 high schools that attended the JCLC, a rigorous summer leadership program, at Fort Jackson June 6-12. Cadets were billeted in the barracks of the 2nd Battalion, 39th Infantry, a modern basic training facility. The activities included rappelling, high and low ropes, zip lines, obstacle courses, confidence courses, rope bridges, canoeing, land navigation, military stakes (cadet knowledge), organization day sports activities, a math and science exercise, and a trip to the state museum.

At the graduation ceremony, UCHS cadet Meagan Hames was designated as one of four Distinguished Honor Cadets, a designation awarded to the top one percent of JCLC attendees. Along with Hames, two UCHS cadets were designated as Honor Graduates of Junior Cadet Leadership Challenge, a designation reserved for the top four percent in attendance. Honor Graduates were Hannah Hartley and Michael Leigh.

Other JCLC graduates were Kayleigh Duckett, Hailey Sherbert, Nicole Fowler, Satardra Hall, Ethan Pendleton, Shameek White, Nick Garrison, Andre Jeter, Dalton Johnson, Jesse Blue, Brandon Copeland, and Kris Lewis. This is one of the largest contingents that UCHS has sent to Junior Cadet Leadership Challenge.
