The Dixie Girls Darlings league All Star team traveled to Jefferson, SC last Friday to begin tournament play. After a loss to Dentsville on Friday night, the girls rallied for a win over Jefferson on Saturday before being eliminated on Monday by Pageland, 13-12.
Eight-year-old All Star, Carley Sumner hit an over the fence homerun and was presented the game ball, signed by Tommy Catoe, president of the Dixie Girls. It was the first homerun ever hit during a coaches pitch game at the Jefferson ballpark.
Coach Andrea Griffen said it was a real pleasure to coach each and everyone of the girls.
“We have really gotten close over these past few weeks,” she said. “I want to thank the other coaches and all the parents and fans for coming out and supporting us this year!”
