A Union man ended up in jail after he allegedly admitted — twice — that he hit a woman with a flip-flop and then slapped a phone from her hand because she called 911.
Devlann Keith Rice, 23, 126 E. Lee St., Union, is charged by the Union Public Safety Department with criminal domestic violence.
The incident report states an officer was dispatched Monday night to 221 E. Main St., Apt. 204, Union, in reference to a domestic disturbance. When he arrived on the scene, the officer was met by a second officer and together they approached the apartment. As they did, the report states they heard a verbal altercation between a man and a woman with the woman shouting “You had not reason to throw a shoe and hit me.” The man replied, “Well, you had no reason to call the (expletive deleted) police over some stupid (expletive deleted).”
When the officers knocked on the door to the apartment, they were met by the victim and Rice. The officers observed that the victim was crying. The report states the victim said Rice had throw a flip-flop and struck her in the face. She said when she picked up the phone to call 911, Rice walked over and slapped the phone off the side of her face and onto the floor.
As the victim was making her statement, the report states she and Rice began arguing with Rice saying that he would not have done those things if the victim hadn’t called 911 over something stupid. When officers questioned Rice, the report states he again said he wouldn’t have thrown the shoe or slapped the phone off the victim’s face if she hadn’t called 911 over something stupid.
Officers then advised Rice he was under arrest for criminal domestic violence, handcuffed him and transported him to jail.
