Another piece of history has been loaned to the Union County Museum, adding to its collection of treasures.
A historic quilt which was sold earlier this year during an estate auction was loaned to the museum for an indefinite period of time. The quilt is a 1929 Union High School Class Quilt.
The name of every class, teacher, student and club from Union High Schools Class of 1929 has been sewn into the quilt, which now hangs on the museum’s wall. The quilt names sports teams, cheerleaders, various clubs and even the school play for that year — “Her Step Husband.”
Museum director Ola Jean Kelly said the person who made the quilt is unknown, and the quilt’s current owner wants to remain anonymous. Kelly also pointed out that in 1929, the school only went to the 11th grade, as a 12th grade was not added until the 1940s.
