Where were you when the lights went out? I was watching The Next Food Network Star, and was pretty close to finding out who was going to be sent home. The lights went out around 9:30 p.m.

Well in my neighborhood, we all ended up outside with flashlights. I could see light beams everywhere. It was total blackness in Lockhart. I sat on the porch and read a book by flashlight, I felt that I could not stay in the house, because it was getting stuffy inside, and the smell and feel of rain is peaceful. ( I used to walk in the rain, if there wasn’t any lightening).

Well, leave it to the wonderful crew of Lockhart Power and they pinpointed the problem and fixed it. A tree fell on the power lines at the Scout Hut close to the dam. They worked that night to restore power, and it came on about 10:50 p.m. Thank You Lockhart Power.

Well, I think the lights flickered one more time later on, but never really went off, so my daughter thought we should sleep in shifts, because I had to go to an appointment in the morning and didn’t want to over sleep. So there I was watching the rerun of The Next Food Network (the one I had just missed) and turned it off again and still didn’t see the end, since I was taking the sleeping shift first.

Well the reason for this story is because it is now lightning outside and I am trying to write this in a hurry just in case the power goes off for awhile, and I may not finish. I think I told you that a couple of weeks ago I came home from a town meeting and my house was black, but not my neighbors. The lightning hit a pole above my house and knocked the fuse out, so Mike Allen came and fixed this for us. He’s a Lockhart Power worker, and came out in the pouring rain, late in the evening. Somewhere else they may say we’ll be there in the morning, not Lockhart.

Budget

We had our first reading of the 2012-2013 budget for the Town of Lockhart. We made what changes needed to be made, and the last reading will be at out the next meeting in two weeks. We have to have this done and turned in by June 30. We don’t know when the bridge project will get started but they did inform Ailene that they did have the money for the new bridge, but still did not say which way it will go or when they will start it.

Sympathy

We’ve lost some wonderful friends in the last couple of weeks, so my sympathy goes out to Loretta Lemons’ family, Harold Gibson’s family, Walt Campbell’s family, Nora Massey’s family, and James Farr’s family.

Birthdays

I’m so sorry that I missed putting some birthdays in the paper, but my source gave them to me late. I really should try harder to remember my friends’ birthdays, but I’m guilty of forgetfulness. But on the 14th of June is Ailene Ashe’s birthday, and I know no one else forgot it, and she’ll have a happy day. Also on the 14th are Kaye Carter, Rhonda Greer; on the 12th was Laverne Bryan, and my dear friend, Blake McCollum. On the 16th is Weldon Eaves and Charles Bennett’s; and on the 18th is Dennis Broome’s birthday, along with Helen Bailey and Bryant Ley. The 21st, Renarda Voiselle.

Anniversaries

The 12th — Rick and Rita McLeod; the 15th — Faye and Rev. Jessie Bentley, and Judy and Gary Turner; the 21st — Marvin and Anita Montgomery; and on the 22nd — Renarda and Jay Voiselle.

Pet Adoption

Before I forget, I must tell you that Cheryl McNeace told Cricket that he needed to come and see me and adopt a kitten She said he turned to her and said you’ve got to be kidding. She said he’d never have a better friend. Love unconditionally, faithfulness, and pets take the stress away when you sit and pet them. Come on Cricket! What would we do without Cheryl?

Moving

I heard that Inez is going on a cruise with her family. I hope she lets us know if she has a good time. I guess she won’t be moving back to No Man’s Land, since she put her house up for sale. She must like Georgia, and being near her family. But we can still miss her.

Visitors

Connie Bell and her two daughters are here visiting from New Mexico, I hope they are enjoying their visit.

Chiropractor

I made it a point to visit Dr. Sherman, the Chiropractor. This time my hand kept tingling and going asleep. I figured she cures everything else, I’ll see what she can do with this problem. So after x-rays, she had her work cut out for her and she started on my neck, because I felt the vertebra was pinching a nerve. See I always diagnose my problem first. Believe it or not, whatever she did, my hand did not go to sleep while I was driving to Spartanburg today, and it sure was doing it before. I’ll see how I do at work tomorrow.
